Rules for Carrying Lithium Batteries

Traveling with lithium batteries, found in devices like smartphones, laptops, and cameras, requires adherence to specific regulations. These batteries, while essential, pose potential fire risks if not handled correctly. Spare lithium batteries, including power banks, must be carried in carry-on baggage only. Checked luggage is prohibited. The wattage hour (Wh) rating is crucial. Batteries with 100 Wh or less are generally allowed, but those exceeding this limit require airline approval. Protect battery terminals with tape or by placing them in individual plastic bags to prevent short circuits. Always comply with airline-specific rules and declare batteries at security checkpoints if necessary.
