As subject line describes, when I open the regular (non-rated) BG page, it contains many flex, scenario, arena, and other types of activities.

The rated BG page doesn't have this 'bleed over', and just has rateds listed.

Is it input error or is there something else going on?

While some of it could be input error, there is indeed a bug somewhere that is causing the groups to initially be mis classified. If the leaders of those groups then "update premade", the group would be placed in the propery category. 

However, Tiny is aware / looking for the bug that is causing the intial miss classification.

Thanks for the quick response.  I guess I can stop banning them for not being able to read.

this has been fixed and is included with 1.8.7b.  i'm still working on additional updates before pushing it out (will prolly push it tonight)
